What is Grapefruit Seed Extract?

Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is a broad spectrum antimicrobial compound synthesized in a unique process from the seeds and pulp of grapefruits. The final product is a combination of naturally occurring elements including bioflavonoids, amino acids, fatty acids, saccharides, phenolic compounds, tocopherols, ascorbic acid and dehydroascorbic acid.

What is the History of GSE?

GSE was discovered in 1976. Its commercial use soon began in the agricultural industry where it was used as a mold inhibitor and in the cosmetic industry as a preservative. It has been sold in health food stores and by health practitioners for almost a decade.

In What Forms Can I Find GSE?

GSE comes in two forms: liquid and powder. The liquid is more versatile and perhaps a little more effective, and since it has a bitter taste it is usually added to fruit juice or herbal teas before being consumed. The powder is encapsulated, but, if desired, can be opened and put in to food or drink, and has an acceptable taste.

General Information

Grapefruit seed extract is a very powerful and effective antimicrobial agent and has been used successfully to treat a wide variety of health concerns. It can be taken with water, juice or herbal tea, or used as a food wash, toothbrush cleaner, nasal rinse, and many, many more uses. Grapefruit seed extract is very bitter, so we suggest taking it with fruit juice or herbal tea to mask the flavor.

For those who want to use it for internal uses, grapefruit seed extract can cause a major die-off of organisms resulting in a temporary toxic reaction. If you are using it for candida, for instance, we suggest starting slowly and gradually increasing the number of drops used.

The overuse and misuse of antibiotics both in humans and livestock is causing very serious health problems because the bacteria that had successfully been killed by antibiotics have now developed mutant strains that are resistant to nearly all of the drugs used. Not only have our immune systems been compromised by the antibiotics, but also the new strains of bacteria are nearly impossible to treat using conventional drugs. People undergoing surgeries at hospitals are at considerable risk for getting an infection. A decade ago it was reported that 1,000,000 patients developed post-surgical infections, and the numbers have been increasing. Traditional drugs are nearly totally ineffective in treating life-threatening staph and strep infections. We strongly advise pre-dosing with grapefruit seed extract for three or four days prior to surgery and for a week or so following the procedure. This should greatly lessen your chances of getting a bacterial infection.

Directions for Use

Athlete’s foot - Put 100 drops in 2 oz. of water and apply to affected area with a cotton ball.

Candida - Begin with one drop in a glass of water and gradually increase to 5-6 drops. Grapefruit seed extract will cause a pathogen die-off, so to prevent toxic shock, gradually increasing the dose is strongly recommended.

Dandruff - Mix 7-10 drops with the normal amount of shampoo you use. Massage into your hair and leave on for at least 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water, avoiding contact with eyes.

Diaper rash - Use between 4-40 drops in four oz. of water. Put the solution in a spray bottle and mist the affected area. Start with a weak solution. If the problem is not resolved in 5-7 days, increase the strength of the solution. Be careful not to get the, mist in the baby’s eyes.

Diarrhea - Take 10-15 drops 4 times a day in juice or herbal tea. Use 4-5 drops in your water to prevent traveler’s diarrhea if you are in a country with a questionable water supply. Consult your physician if conditions persist.

Facial cleanser (normal skin care or acne) - Moisten face with water. Add 3-4 drops to wet hands and massage onto the skin avoiding contact with the eyes (rinse thoroughly if eye contact occurs). You may also add 4-40 drops to 4 oz. of water and apply with a cotton ball 2-3 times daily. Try adding a few drops to your favorite soap.

Fungus infections (nail) - Put 100 drops in 2 oz. of water and apply to the affected area with a cotton ball.

Infections - Put 100 drops in 2 oz. of water and apply to affected area with a spray or cotton ball.

Nasal rinse - Add no more than 2 drops to 2 oz. of distilled or purified water. Use as a nasal douche as directed by your doctor.
